Hi all, I'm new to perch fishing open water on simcoe. No idea what to be looking for. Flats? Drop offs? Rock piles? Shoals? Weeds? Depth? Read a lot of ppl mentioning 30-40fow, do the perch suspend or stay around bottom? Not looking for any hot spots or secrets, just a little more general info of where to start. I have a 16' Princecraft, 90hp, Minnkota Terrova w/ ipilot trolling motor, and an older Lowrance fish finder, currently using navionics on my iPad until I find a good deal on a sonar/gps combo. I live in Barrie, so usually launch downtown and fish Kbay,or 9th line Oro. Again any info would be greatly appreciated, and I'll keep searching through old threads to gather all the Intel I can.

Come September the perch start migrating into kempenfelt. I find that they are most abundent around 20 fow on bottem in the weeds. I have also had a lot of success in that month from the shore aswell. I use a drop shot and small minnows. It's so successful I get board of catching them. Also check out the fall Barrie perch festival, 10 days of perchen and a lot of fun.

That's great info Itch. Thanks! I will definitely look into the festival. I just got my boat this spring a few days after the Orillia perch festival started, was hoping to have it prior to but missed it, and decided to take the spring to outfit it the way I'd like.
