My friend is staying up in Lagoon City recovering from some pretty serious health upsets and is bored to tears. He asked me to bring my boat up and take him trolling for lake trout to help kill some time. I regularly troll on Lake Erie with downriggers, dipsies, and lead core using spoons and body baits and have lots of stuff but I have NO CLUE whatsoever how to target lakers or where to head out of the Lagoon....
Do you use flashers or dodgers or can you just troll spoons? Are dipsy divers or leadcore effective or should I just stick with the downriggers? What colours are effective? How deep of water should I be heading for? I am really not a trout fisherman at all and may never go again but I'd love to find one if I can. Any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Ive never gone out from that side of the lake but I've been jigging and catching in 80-100 ft of water. If he is capable I would make a short 20min drive to the oro shores. head out from there. Depending on the boat you have. If you have a capable boat you may be fine leaving from lagoon city. My boat is not so great so I need the shortest trip and from oro I'm in 100 ft of water in under 1km.

I don't know your side of the Lake, as I fish the West side.
For lakers you need to be in at least 80 fow, jigging or trolling. If trolling, try to troll about 3 feet from bottom at 1.5--2.0mph using spoons. No flashers. Silver/chartreuse, plain silver and silver/blue work well.

Thanks a lot for your help guys. It looks like about a 6 or 7 mile run out from Lagoon City to 80 fow which isn't bad. We'll go drag some spoons around and see what we drag up.
