Hey everyone it is getting close to my pick up time for the skidoo that I spring ordered and i need to buy a trailer. My mechanic says that aluminum will oxidize over time and is difficult to repair. It is also a lot more to purchase initially. So I was just wondering what people on here have to say about the pros and cons of each. I realize that galvanized has to be built/dipped properly and is heavier but i have a truck so weight is not a problem. I am kind of leaning towards a galvanized frame with an aluminum cap and possibly undercoat the trailer every season. Any opinions are welcome since it is my first trailer purchase
Thanks

Buy a cargo trailer with a drop rear door . A lot less money and you can use it for a lot more things than snowmobiling . I got one for my Skandic it has been great . My two cents.

Make sure it's a full covered trailer..if you are traveling any distance the salt and sand are HARD on a sled! You have spent the money on a new machine so you might as well spend the money to protect it!

I looked into cargo trailers but they seemed to be a lot more expensive than just a snowmobile trailers. Any suggestions on where to price one in the gta?

If you buy a ramp door, make dam sure it's flat on the ground otherwise loading and unloading can warp them. Once the frames warped, go look for a new door.

Pay now or pay later, covered wagon is the way to go.

Since you are already set on an enclosed trailer i dont think you can go wrong with either. If the money is there go with aluminum but galvanized will be fine to. Both are a pain to repair but if your going new you will have years and years of use with little maintenance.

My view - aluminium.

And the advice of others - fully covered. That salt / sand slush build up is nasty. Let alone on your equipment - also on your hands / clothing.

I bought my aluminium Argo trailer from place on Hwy 7 - just east of Peterborough - great price and immediate service.

Thanks

If weight isn't an issue, I'd go with the galvanized. There stronger, cheaper and easier to repair . Also find out what kind of tires it comes with, a lot of brands put crappy tires on to keep the cost down.Get the dealer to up grade them if your not happy with the quality. Also don't let them nail you on the extras. Try and buy direct from the manufacturer there usually more cooperative with any changes you want to make.

I purchased an aluminum Northtrail atv trailer about 8 years ago and the aluminum is showing no signs of corrosion. It has the fold down back door and at over 100" wide will fit 2 sleds or ATVs where cargo trailers will not.
