Hi All,

I need some advise with wind speed. I have a 16ft boat and was planning to head out to kempenfelt bay tomorrow. According to the Weather network winds will be 30/km h. Is this too much wind to fish in?

I've been out in 20km winds and had a hard time fishing. Especially if its from the east. If its a north wind and your fishing the north side it MIGHT be ok?

Be careful....

hey there,

Was also thinking of going out tomorrow or Sunday. I'm near Jackson's point and they are calling for 30-40 km winds from the East so I am not sure if I will be making it out there on my 15ft tiller.

Be safe out there!

30K east wind, forgetaboutit. I was there this morning and it was whitecaps and only 20K. Only 2 boats out there flopping around.

Don't forget to wear your PFD and everyone in your boat also, and bring an extra bailing bucket you may require it. Something I have found on Simcoe it's the wave/rollers you don't see that rock the boat. I have never found fishing in the wind fun on Simcoe, open water or hard water.

I just drove by the tiffin launch on my lunch because I was gunna go for some smallies after work but that won't be happening. Waves were rolling in all the way from Beaverton. I have fished in 30k winds before though. All depends on what direction it is coming from. If you fished the East shore of simcoe today you would probablly be fine.

When the wind is over 20km/h fishing is a wasting of time/gas.
Better sharp your hooks at home for another day.

Try the wind guru web site. Gives direction and speed of wind with gusts.
notice speed is in knots too.... do conversion to km/h if you need to.
East wind dont bother

Max on Simcoe is a SW about 20 km/h in a 16 ft boat as you have to come back ! Like that other guy said the lady can get real angry real fast....

Also the bad thing about venturing out with a high wind forecast is many factors to consider. The motor could quit and there is no other boats to help and your boat is turning sideways and a big gust of wind sends a wave over the side and fills your boat. I know someone who was salmon fishing out in Lake Ontario and one wave more than filled the 24 footer. He was lucky that there just happened to be a big sailboat out there and it was the only watercraft out there. So please fellow anglers practice safety first.
