On Saturday a good friend of Lake Simcoe and a long time friend and fishing buddy passed away. Some may have known him and his mannerisms but his work on the lake will benefit all in the future. My sincere condolences to his wife Lisa his two boys and the family. We will miss you. I will miss you

Found some photos of my fishing for whitefish with Elliott (Gills) back in May 2010 when he invited me to fish with him on his boat, and taught me how to jig and catch whitefish:

And here is a photo I found with a better view of Elliott (taken by someone else in June 2010, I think, one month after I took the above two photos. With the same jacket on as seen on the photos I took above, I believe)

My deep condolences to his family and his friends.

I am stunned. I had some fun times on the lake with him and that crazy dog of his. My favorite was when Elliot was fishing in a hut when the CO showed up. He asked Elliot how he was doing and Elliot told him that he had one whitie on the ice.. "Then how come there are three white fish out here the CO asked. "BS" Elliot answered and looked out the door. Sure enough, there were three whities laying on the ice. "But, but, but..." Elliot answered. Just then, across the ice... with a whitie in his mouth came Elliot's dog and laid it right at his door!!! The damn dog was stealing other fishermen's catch and bringing them "home" to his master. HaHaHa!!! The poor CO did not know what to do but told him that he had better find somebody to take them and NOT to come off the ice with more than two.
That damn dog did that to me too but with perch. It sorted through my pile of perch and brought back the biggest to Elliot, one perch at a time. We sat on the ice and laughed until we almost peed our pants.
I am going to miss him.

This is very shocking news.. I didn't even know Elliot was sick or anything. I am very sorry to hear this and my sincerest condolences to his family. I fished with Elliot on a few occasions, a very knowledgeable angler and fun guy.. He was also a great ambassador of the lake, he was a member of the Lake Simcoe Stakeholders Committee and always expressed interest when the health or the fishery of Lake Simcoe was concerned. I am very sorry to hear about this loss, and I'm sorry Bob.. As I know he was a good close friend of yours. God Bless..

Nice story Randy, Thank-you. It made me smile..

I also am stunned and shocked by this information.

RIP old buddy.

as with Bob and many others , I also spent many days fishing with Elliot.

He was a generous soul that would lend you his boat or whatever at the drop of a hat. he was also always late

One time I did borrow it for a day of jigging whities in May.

Someone esle had the boat out the day before and we we got there we found the tank near empty and a pile of garbage in the boat.

we drove to JP and got fuel and cleaned up 2 bags of plastic botttles etc.

When I spoke with Elliot later in the day he got mad at me for cleaning the boat and leaving him a full tank of gas. he was like that.

I will miss him a great deal

I have many, many stories too but I would like to point out that he was one of the five founders of CRAA.
