Just joined the forum. Have been on the "other" forum for a few years but have just retired and got some spare time on my hands to do a little browsing. We live in Beaverton but am originally from the Windsor area. Started fishing with my dad as soon as I could walk. We would rent an old steel boat in Amherstburg and put dad's old 4 horse motor on it that you had to wind the cord around on top. After several hundred pulls and a lot of blue air he would finally get it going and off we would go. In those days perch, silver bass, walleye were plentiful in the Detroit river and we had great days fishing. Now I have a bunch of grand kids that I am trying to get hooked. Fish all four seasons mostly on Simcoe now but do a few trips to Lake Ontario, Rice Lake and Napanee. Big boat for the family and a 16 for me. Gotta love the water! Look forward to some dialogue.

Welcome aboard papabum.
Windsor seems like yesterday for me (though yesterday was 60 years ago.........lol) fished BobLo (most weekends) down around the bend to Holiday Beach - back then. My favorite was Peche Island - great crappie and if you fished it you'd know about the "hole" between the Island and Riverside - walleye glory hole as some of the old timers called it.
Simcoe has been very kind to me over the years and the fishery is great. The grandkids will learn fast, I'm sure and love every minute of it. All the best to you and your family.

Awesome fishing on the Detroit river... I fished it for the very first time this year. Although I'm just a catch and release fisherman and I actually don't eat fish, I am wondering whether the fish from the Detroit river edible? I am so looking forward to next spring to fish the river again!
