Hope for a good outcome but it's not sounding good.

Thanks for posting. Agree doesn't look good for the individual and family.

Were there huge winds on the lake today?

If wearing life jacket should be found by now?

I fish solo a lot - I've got to encourage myself to wear LJ more often. Regardless of weather conditions.

Thanks

I am sure there was some rough water if you had anywhere near the sustained winds and gusts we were getting in Mississauga today.
Going to make rough search conditions.

Does not look good.

On wearing life jacket more often, I'd say if on water, wear your life jacket at ANY AND ALL times no matter what. You have to expect the unexpected at ANY AND ALL times.

Simcoe has had whitecaps due to fairly strong winds from the north west quadrant for several days now. I understand it was a 26 foot boat. I'm not a sail boat guy but that sounds like enough boat. Sadly, accidents do happen.

Friends are still praying for the safe return of Bob Luery, the man who went missing after setting off in his sailboat from Jackson's Point to Lagoon City Thursday.

The Canadian Coast Guard was back in the air searching again as of 10 a.m. today, according to police, after heavy waves and high winds hindered the search yesterday.

Waves were so high on Lake Simcoe during parts of the day that police boats were unable to reach the shoreline of Georgina Island as they tried to recover Luery's boat, named Therapy.

It was on Wednesday that Luery, 67, from Newmarket, set off from Bonnie Boats Marina at Jackson's Point, alone in his boat.

He was on his way to Lagoon City, to store his vessel for the winter.

Another boat carrying Julies and Dale Lubbert was going to the same location.

However, partway through the journey, trouble started for Luery and his boat was later found off the island with the sails up.

According to police, the other boaters made it safely to their destination.

Ron Dyer, associate pastor at Cedarview Community Church on Gorham Street in Newmarket, said Luery is a "rock solid" kind of guy.

"He is awesome. I have known him 25 years and he's the kind of guy you depend on," he said. "He's always asking questions, always supporting me encouraging me to stay strong. We've just been praying and hoping for his safe arrival."

The church said two congregation members are comforting Luery's wife, Elaine, and the church has set up a prayer network, where a number of people pray for his safe return.

Scott Davidson, owner of Bonnie Boats, said the weather "blew up" yesterday after he said Leury left at about 1 p.m..

"We're still under a special weather statement," he said, explaining that the boat looked to be about 24 footer.

Davidson said that when police found the boat, which is currently tied at his docks, it was banging against the rocks on the island's shore.

When asked if he believes the weather was bad enough to cause him to fall overboard, he said possibly, but added that he wouldn't discount a medical emergency.

"There's always that question, maybe something else happened," he added, noting that in his 10 years at the marina, he's never seen this sort of thing occur. "I met him once, when we serviced his motor, really nice guy. I hope they find him well, but it's getting pretty late now."
