Maybe the tires on my 450 Honda are so narrow and go through everything I had thrown at it since I bought it 2 years ago but I never used chains this far as I do a bit of road riding as well in the winter. Got stuck once trying to cross a pressure Crack last year that ran from bbp to oro but that was about it. Got hung up on an ice ledge.

Reading thread again and the mention of slush!!!

I have an Argo - tracked - and sometimes have challenges with slush. And don't like the aspect of the slush freezing everywhere after . . .

If you are out on any lake towing trailer - two wheels will go into the slush. Could be a real challenge for you to get both ATV and trailer out? Trailer wheels would be making their own tracks - a real drag.

Sled with rigid tow bar is better - sled can (usually or mostly) ride on top of the slush.

Can't imagine being in two or more feet of slush attempting to get loaded trailer unstuck. And then all that frozen slush stuck to the trailer - adding yet more weight.

If you've not yet been through a distance of slush - you're missing and experience that is not that infrequent on the frozen lakes . . .

On new fallen snow - slush can have tendency to be hidden until in it. Weight of snow on ice forces ice down - water comes up the cracks and into the snow. Can happen at any temperature . . .

I just drag my heavy sled out by hand. Great exercise and I have never gotten stuck. Takes a bit longer though, and I do feel jealous on those days where the hike is long and I see you guys and your quads whizzing by me me and setting up right where I was going to. Good Luck and I'll see you in my spot!

Wow!!! Some deep slush!!!

Do you have tracks for the snow? Or stay just with the tires?

Terific photo! Sometimes (or often) when in a nasty situation - people don't take time to document. Great thst you did!!

Thanks

The next trip out I put the tracks on. Would have taken me over that if I had put them before that trip. But there was little snow on the ice. That happened about 7 miles out from shore.

you were fine... that Island behind you there is walkable.

I do hate to travel a lone. This year I am hoping I can buddy up with people to ride out. Don't have to fish side by side. More like in the same direction is fine.
