Well , The weather pretty well sucked Saturday rain and windy as heck. We did managed 45 8-11"most 8-9" fish for four guys out of port bolster 26-27'. 100s of fish 6-7" Good thing we had a big fish fry Saturday because on the way home Sunday mnr had a checkpoint and I didn't leave skin on my 24 perch.(did have on some). $125 fine and took my fish for improper transport. D bag had a bad attitude for some reason. Now that I know, it won't happen again. Not impressed with there professionalism. idk but I can tell the difference between perch and others. They can too. I think they are a little harder on you when they think your form Michigan, read the book and they didn't have to seize the fish. Didn't tell them i'm Canadian. Guess ill just pay the toll to fish there. Did have a blast with my son though... tight lines

I think it's safe to say that we've all had experiences both good and bad with MNR enforcement officers, my last few being positive. That being said, the fall does seem to be prime time for poachers on most if not all waterways. The bad attitude you experienced is unacceptable though. Hopefully the officer you dealt with is the exception, rather than the rule. Sorry to hear about the fine, glad to hear that you had a good time while fishing though...

Same as us on the weekend, took limit but jumbos are far and few. Lots of 9-10" and dinks thou. That sucks about the fine! Transport them whole and clean at home.

That ducks about the fine. I would agree with you that perch fillets are pretty easy to tell from other fish except maybe small walleye but 24 walleye on simcoe in one day is extremely unlikely

Great that you got out and fished with your son. Too bad about the stop by MNR - they are doing their job. They stopped me on boat early summer - I was missing some safety equipment - let of with a warning. Next day equipment was purchased and in boat.
As for telling the difference of perch fillets and any other fish - not the point. Rule states to leave a tag on 1 side of the fillets - so that there is no misrepresentation. I'm guessing that many of us do not follow this rule when travelling from cottage to back home with fish. Or from home to someone else's house to cook the fish?
I think your post is a good reminder to all of us get in habit of leaving tag when cleaning fish - even at home.
If you don't mind sharing - what does a stop by MNR look like? Is it like a RIDE check? Do they pull over those coming from boat launch with boat and / or fishing rods? Certainly they are not checking everyone?

When you clean fish you want to clean it.... not partially clean it. In the past when I used to clean fish before I bring them back home I forget to leave a piece of skin on the fish. The knife tends to start from the tail and ends clean out the other side.
Look at this as a speeding ticket with no points deducted. Everyone speeds but you got busted. Sorry to hear you got fine. But at least you have a story to tell along with your fishing trip.

Agreeing with both your statements / perspectives.
However, for the record, not only got fine - also lost the cleaned fish. Those could be considered priceless?
