Ya,crazy experience. 15 miles east of London on 401, we see a guy on the overpass with a radio. I think crap I'm getting pulled over for going 10km over. The next overpass there was 3 blacked out trucks and one started following us. Started to see signs saying mnr check point all anglers must exit to weigh scale area. Truck lit me up and followed me to the weigh area. I was thinking because of moose season they are checking everyone. Guy was rude and got loud when I said he could tell the difference, and I had a few fish with skin on. Grew up in Windsor I've been on the 401 a million times, never seen a check point. They have deer check points in Michigan but you don't have to stop.

Great to hear you caught some fish. To bad about the stop and inspection. Our group was up last weekend and for the first time we cleaned and package the fish before we left. Very good thing we weren't stopped. Where did they have there check point? Heard of them doing inspections never seen them all the years we have been coming up for are fall perch trip.

I know its the law but if it was obvious that they were perch with some skin amongst the fillets they were just looking for easy money as usual. Typical abuse of authority Imop. No friggin common sense anymore!! Too bad man,put a downer on your weekend.

MNR is cracking down this year on all violations and handing out larger fines, to much complaining on social media about them not doing their job. Now they start to crack down and still they get the haters, follow the rules and it's no problem, don't and get caught expect the consequences and accept it. We can't expect to have it both ways.

Ditto on the well said....the law is the law is the law...read the regs and learn our laws and you wont be griping about fines and losing your fish....suppose if the police nail a drug dealer, they should let him keep the drugs ?

Agreed waste of time going after 1 guy with 24 perch. Way to treat the tourists. The operators are already having a hard time with fishing businesses, scare away the out of towners with fines, meanwhile the local poachers are filling their freezers.

can't believe people are actually complaining about the MNR for doing their job... So maybe the big deal isn't 24 perch, but what if the boat had 240 perch? Or what if there was several coolers in the back with a few bucks that were illegally shot?
Fact is, the MNR is doing their job. It's a great thing, don't complain.

I have no problem getting checked, I understand that as long as I'm in compliance with the rules, I'm not getting in trouble. I do however disagree with the people that say the increase in enforcement scares away tourists. IMO, if it scares people off, then they were planning on playing dirty. In this age of technology, there is absolutely no reason to be ignorant of the rules and regulations. Playing the "I didn't know that..." card doesn't fly. Perhaps the MNR could team up with Canadian Customs Agency (Border Patrol) to hand out regs books to all anglers and hunters entering Ontario. That way, the onus is entirely on the individuals to know and understand the rules, and the subsequent punishment(s) for breaking them...

Sorry guys for your loss of fish and cash, but strict is fair. In response to the CO's attitude we all have bad days, Don't paint them all with the same brush they are out there doing a job, a job most sportsman would love to do. Perhaps he was p##### that he was told to write the ticket on you and maintain zero tolerance.

I didn't see anywhere he mentioned that it was not fair or that it was not justified. He said he didn't like the professionalism of the officer. He also said he was fine with it and saw it was like a toll. Someone is just explaining his story of his fishing trip and this tread goes off and attacks him for a mistake he admits to. If anything he has reminded others and should be thanked! Obviously it was not a big deal otherwise the fine would been larger. That $150 fine is at par with the fine for forgetting to carry your license while fishing. Hey I forgot many times as I leave it with my hunting stuff. Some CO will write you up but I have been lucky all 3 times and got a warning. Even tho I am not entitled to a single warning but I got lucky 3 times from CO that gave me attitude right from first sight.
To compare this with a drug crime is outrageous. Possession of improper packed fish and possession of controlled/banned substance is not a fair comparison. First off the fish impounded will end up in the trash as waste while the impounded drugs will still be consumed! Lol
How many have rant after a traffic ticket? He didn't rant at all... Just told what happen.
