[/QUOTE] My brother in law is slovakian and they also do carp for christmas dinner, though they batter and deep fry and do the same with cauliflower and serve with potato salad. Is heavy, but good. Funny story, they like christmas carp to be fresh. Killed that day fresh. The one time his dad had to buy the carp a few days beforehand, so to keep it fresh he filled the tub with water and kept the fish in it. Probably would have been better for his marriage for him to let his wife in on this fact instead of her discovering the fish there when she went to bathe!
That's a funny story indeed. Are they still married?
It's interesting how different nations have their own recipes to cook it. Also did not know that the Slovaks are eating carp as their Christmas dinner.

Nice fish. I got lucky one time on the Holland river and managed to catch about 7 or 8 carp that were all around the 2lbs range. Brought them home and oven baked them. Texture of the meat almost reminded me of veal and it was delicious.

It's that time of the year again when the kayak friendly days are hard to come by. Looked at the forecast...wind and rain...but they were wrong before so decided to go shore fishing for carp anyway. They got the rain right - lool- but at least no wind.
It rained non-stop and for the first 5 hours had no bites. Really wanted to catch something after roughing it out for so long. Finally a strong bite, was sure I'm going to land it when the line breaks...
Almost accepted defeat but decided to re-tie and my perseverance was rewarded by catching two of my biggest carp ever. Did not weigh them but looked over 25lb each. Great fights also as it took me 10-15 minutes each to pull them out.

Thank you gentlemen!
I'm still hoping to take the yak out on more time this year for some pike fishing.
However I did start preparing for the ice fishing season : bought a hut, a heater, will be using an auger with a cordless drill and to put the icing on the cake I want to get my hands on a Marcum LX-6s sonar.
I know DB will still out fish everyone but super excited to play with the new toys.

Come to think of it the lowrance would be perfect for your yak as well since it's waterproof. It's the one that was on the bow of my boat when we went out in the tournament I'm looking to get something ith a bigger screen for the bow.
