I was told by the dealer that the noise filter will clean up the screen a bit, but also will affect the quality of the picture. Not sure if the out come still good enough. But if lowering the sensitivity works then it is good to know. Thanks.

Does anyone have experience with the 7? Are the settings the same by chance?
My fishing buddy and I struggled with the settings often. When it works.... WOW AMAZING! When it didn't... So frustrating! Lol
hahah. I hear ya. Yes, I have had enough share of my cycles of "When it works.... WOW AMAZING! When it didn't... So frustrating!", with my ELITE-5.:-), until finally I got it for good.

My friend Al has a Lowrance 4X HDI and I have a Mark 5 Pro. I went by what James et. al. posted on here and Al used a similar setting. Here's what we both have experienced and find it very puzzling: we get everything tuned up and can see our small sinker distinct from our hook and bait or jib. Then, for no apparent reason, things kind of 'fade out' in that we can no longer see either!! We have made no changes to the settings, did not move to another hole or deliberately changed anything but it keeps happening, seemingly at random. Any comments or guesses as to what's happening?

Hey knuguy, are you losing your jig as its dropping or over the course of the day? Either way i think its your transducer alignment. Its not shooting straight down. Minor adjustments make a big difference i find. I use a boat ducer and it takes me a while to dial it in when i start the season. If im fishing deep water say 100ft plus and watch my lure fall but lose it 3/4 of the way down i know for sure my ducer is off. If im using a fluttering lure then i expect not to see it until it settles down. Hope that helps.

Xducer alignment seems to be OK. Al has a proper ice xducer. I have made a jig for my normal Xducer that keeps mine quite level---I have a bull's eye level attached to the top. Th 'cone angle' is quite big. I forget what the angle is but the dia at the bottom is bigger than the depth. So it's hard to imagine the sinker being outside the cone: there seems to be very little current where we fish. eg. quite near shore on Lake Joe. The image of the lure fades in and out like a bad radio station.

The 'cone angle' is quite big? Are you using 200kHz?

I had the same problem on Jo. I would move the ducer a bit and pick up my jig again. Whether it's a bit of current or because where I fish on Jo is a steep angle I don't know but if I adjust my ducer ever so much I pick up the jig again.

Dave, Do you have a proper ice ducer? I thought they were pretty well self correcting re keeping it level/plumb. I guess it's possible to put it off plumb by having some weight on the cord, for eg., where it sits on the ice, esp if the ducer is near the top making the cord fairly short.

On that unit no. Was a regular ducer modified for ice. So would not always be 100% plumb. But a slight adjustment when the jig went missing and there she would be. So it was either not plumb, there was a current or the finder was picking up the shallower part of the drop I was fishing and not my jig which was below. These are just the possibilities that I found when I was troubleshooting this same problem. Could be something completely different.

If you guys are fishing at the 90ft plus level your lines are probably being affected by underwater currents.Simcoe has many and at times more than enough to sweep your rig outside of your finders' viewing area.Sometimes you have no choice but to bring your rig up 20-30 ft till you reaquire it on the finder and drop back down.
