Didn't have any metal banding so I just cut some notches in the top and 2 in the back for a locking system. The next vertical I will make a bit wider. These are for use in a permanent hut, I am tempted to make a fixed mount inside my hole, or is it better not to anchor the base?

to bad you didn't have a 6x6 laying around stick looks weak.
It looks huge, but it is cedar and light just over 1/2 inch thick the rounded corners make it look a lot thicker My hands like the feel, the vertical and stick are the same thickness

Ripped some scrape cedar definitely didn't finish it well, but this stick should look better, just have to see if I have a round over bit for a better finish. Hand sanding I'm not very consistent

Those are nice sticks which are for trout and whities. My only suggestion is to put 10 to 12 lb line and 10 feet of leader material. That way if you get a big fish on and it runs and hits the ice you won't break off so easy.

Very nice Much nicer than the paint sticks I used with two little rounds cut in the ends. 10'' 2x4 , 16'' 1x2 , and metal strapping with 1 screw . If I remember correctly one complete wrapp of line was 23'' Coat hanger wire and elastic for the adjustable pin balance . The thieves that break into huts never liked them but liked my 6'' four way spreaders. Again very nice and good luck with Whitey white fish and Tommy trout

Here are the ones I made and use
Hmmm, yeah dunno how well the 6# will hold up against the edge of holes/floors of the hut. Good call.
