Hey guys I'm looking for a new rod and reel and I wanted to know what you guys use. Now the type of fishing would be lake trout or white fish if you could tell me that would be great. Heading down to bass pro Monday to hopefully get a new rod and reel.

You need to do some homework. Go touch, feel the reels, rods. What works for one may not be what you want / need. Some here will point you in the right direction, but.....

Way better selection at SAIL.. This year I'm trying new inline reels . I got the last Frabil they had at Bass Pro and then got 2 of the Betty's at SAIL. No line twist and very cool reels .Can't wait to put them to the test . If anyone is looking for a betty go to Sail they normally sell for 139.99 and are on sale for 89.99. They have a 1 to 6 gear ratio.

Dinky Jr.: What is the presentation? Are you ice fishing? Fishing from a boat -- jigging? (downrigging,...?)

I'm a fan of St. Croix ice rods, and the Jason Mitchell Meat Sticks (Clam makes these I think). As for reels, I have a few in-lines (primarily for Panfish), but I use Pfluger Presidents and Shimano Sedonas for everything else. I have mentioned this before, if there is one fault with the Pfluger reels, it is that the anti reverse jams in the cold...

Hey Gigigdy.....I like the look of those Betty reels.....on the Sail site the gear ratio is 2.7 to 1....do they also make one 7 to 1?

Newburg.....I think he is looking for jigging thru the ice and possibly off the side of my boat if he stops showing off!...lol

Cheers

Hi Dinky... After looking at your reply I noticed my typo. The reel is a 2.7 to 1 .

I also picked up an in-line reel this year, Eagle Claw, was around $50 i think.

Also looking forward to trying it this year, put it to the test on a Simcow Laker.
