Great trip to Callander

Just came back from fishing trip to Callander Bay, awesome time, beautiful weather (-10), great people. We rent a small cottage right on a bay and it didn’t take more than 5 min to get to our fishing holes. We started with 28 ft, moving slowly to shallower water and found the fish in 12 ft. Walleye was active for most time 2 days, we caught the limit and realised 4 which were in range 45” to 55”, to make us even happier 61” pike showed up at the end of last day and perch (some nice in size) kept us busy while walleyes were on break. As of ice condition we didn’t find any 12-15”, ice was 8-10” at most of the places we fished, lots of pockets of really deep slush on the top even for sleds some parts was difficult to run through, trucks and atv’s is out of question unless the slush will nicely freezes over. Can’t wait to come back there, good luck to everyone who is going, sorry for the quality of pictures it was taken with phone.

Never fished with them Mitch24, just an advice don’t be stuck to one place, try to move around and you’ll locate them. The biggest walleyes were caught on a simple minnow with tip up. Bend rods.

Yes a 61" pike would be massive, probably a world record.

LOL sorry guys still getting confused between inches and cm of course it was not inches, cm!!!It was not huge, but a real fighter.

Great fishing report!! Sounds like Nipissing is fishing well this year. Lots of huge ling being caught.

Yes, I hear you, so far it’s depressing, checking this ice reports from Lady. We usually were leaving from Sally Ann and this season it’s just open water. It’s a long drive to Nipissin, but well worth it last time, so I called motel this morning and made a reservation for Feb 03.We are going again! Local people were telling us that in February, fishing really slowing down, but still it’s better than watching flipping geese swimming on your fishing grounds. I’ll post report after. Good luck!

I've been crossing Callander Bay a few times these past weeks. It has been a very unwinterlike winter, but the ice is safe now.

I just looked out at the bay and there are fewer ice shacks out than usual this year. That being said, it is supporting the trucks.

However, stay clear of the area of the water intake. Very mushy and you could go through. This is an area that extends 1km out from the beach on the south side of the Town of Callander. I believe a truck went through there last week.

If snowmobiling, be careful in Middle Channel south of Grand Trunk Island. I was following some snowmobile tracks but hit some mush. I wasn't going to stop to check ice strength! LOL

The FOSC trail seems fine.

I would also avoid the northern shore where the Cranberry Marsh empties into Callander Bay, just to be safe. Of course, Wasi Falls is always a hazard too close.
