I just booked a trip with the Ice Bungalow guy (Dennis?). I got the four man hut for a weekend. Is this trip good? What should I expect? Any tips to catch fish? Will I catch any fish? lol.
Nice! I used to live in North Bay for school. Caught perch, lots of um. I havent fished the south shore before though.
Going up the 17th of Feb. Looking forward to it, I just hope we at least get a perch, I have been reading and people are saying there is nothing! I really hope this isnt the case!
You will catch fish, I have been going up for the past 5 years or so and we catch fish every year, some more than others. We stay at South Shore Ice Condos not Ice Bungalows but I believe they are in the same area. Every year there are people that say there aren't any fish being caught. It has been getting better each year, last year was the best numbers by far.
What will you catch? Perch - when the come, they come in schools and leave in schools. Walleye - they have been getting better and better every year, sun up and sun down are best of course but we do catch a few throughout the day Pike - last year was the first year we did not catch any, weird Ling - hold on to your rod, these things are a blast, and BIG. more and more seem to be caught every year Cisco/Herring or whatever they are are a blast as well, we are getting fewer each year, they top the fight category though if you hook into one. Puppys, first guy to pass out usually gets greeted by a mud puppy, leave you minnow sit on the bottom after dark and you can catch as many as you like.
Don't be afraid to move around, getaway from the pack, ask the operator where the shallow water is close by, fish the top and the bottom.
Where will you catch the least fish? - in your shack! this has been proven MANY times over.

Have been going with Ice Bungalows for the last 7 yrs. Denis has always been good to us. Ask him for a fry pan or shovel ride. And then hang on. some buds of mine where there on the 18th see Jan 18th Walley and Sturgeon post. Denis just moved his huts out to 32 fow so they are on fresh grounds so if the weather hold steady it should be good.

Hey thanks for the replies guys! I look forward to reading your reports when you get back! Honestly, if we catch even one or two perch and can cook them up the trip will be worth it hahaha. I would love to get at least one or two walleye and maybe some mystery fish (lyng, pike, etc).

I agree with all you say except that catching fish in the Condos works well also.
Comes down to how many guys you have with you. Since we usually go just 2 of us, plenty of space an fishing is fine most of the time. We rarely fish outside. haven't needed to.
Also time of year is important when going up there.
first ice is usually awesome and mild spells like this year prodcue well enough.
Usually by mid Feb. it does slow down.i hope I'm wrong this year as we are booked in again for Feb. 21st.
heading up to nipissing on the 5th. Idle Time again this year. third year. good friendly service. fun time. a little disappointed with no walleye yet, but lots of perch and pike and whitefish. This year there is six of us instead of three so we are getting two four man huts. Lots of room fully equipped too. As Bubbles said the first guy to drop usually has the puppy. The first year we were up Brian crashed and woke up to a puppy. First one all of us had seen.

Hey Hookster, heading up to Idle Tyme next week as well. First time on nipissing in 5 years and first time at this spot. Taking 2 kids with us this time so if the perch were around that would hopfully keep the kids interested at least, but was hoping to get into a few tasty walleye. Are their huts usually in the same spots each year? We used to fish Ice Bungalows and were always able to find a slight drop off near by that we managed to do well for walleye on . We will be in a six man, stop by for a cold beverage and maybe we can share our success stories
