Whether it be instinct or anticipation, I slowly begin to stir from my summer slumber. I emerge from my cave, the light stings my eyes and as I inhale, my nose is met with that familiar bite...winter is upon us. I stumble back inside, jump on my treadmill to catch up on board posts and prepare my legs for hauling. I glance sideways and glimpse a pile in the corner. A large gathering of ice gear that I acquired through endless wanderings through spring and fall clearance sections. A reflex pushes me away from exercise and begin to rifle through my gear, both assessing and organizing. Before I know it, I am inside my assembled hut on a concrete floor surrounded by tackle. I wipe the sweat from my brow, undoubtedly caused by wearing a floater suit indoors. The light glints off an unused auger blade and I snap out my haze. To my horror, the early ice of 2014 has not returned to bless us. So here I sit wondering "should I drive to Cochrane?" After hours of pondering the logistics, I come to my senses and remember safe, southern ice is nearly upon us. For now I will get by on the posts of others who are brave (crazy?) enough to venture on early ice. Hopefully you got a chuckle out of this and brought the ice five minutes closer. For those of you who are champing at the bit, here are some pics to pass the time. Be safe out there.

Haha thank you.
Sadly we didn't have a tape or a scale! I was busy trying to keep the boat headon in the waves too. My previous PB smallie was 6lb 2oz at the Pickering nuke plant and the one in the picture dwarfed the 6lber. She was a football. I'll post one or two more pics.
