I was at a bait shop just south of Orillia on the hiway last year listening to a couple older fisherman talking about the muskie they had been catching while ice fishing on the top end of simcoe. said the didn't like having them back in the lake competing with the other fish, and where killing them before putting them back through the ice. even the bait shop owner was encouraging them to do it. I have never gone back to the same bait shop and never will.
Morons everywhere........................
Muskie are true trophy fish and deserve more respect than such alleged stories.

I am an aquaculture student at fleming college and participated on the stocking that went on during last fall. We stocked about 600 young muskies into the lake. hopefully they grow to trophy sizes.

Thank you dhenao for being part of that team.
Having muskies back on track in Simcoe will be fantastic.

"Yea, I am a member of muskies Canada and the regulation is that you can fish them may till December as long as you record how long you fished for, location, successes, etc."
To be clear though , you can only fish for Muskies in Simcoe if you have the special license from MCI in order to do so. Ask your local chapter how to get one. They appear to be getting some decent results. It would be great to document some big healthy fish!

Just gonna throw out some common knowledge but I never knew this before I moved here to Chatham.
If you want a 50 plus inch musky, Lake St. Clair is your best bet.
Far drive, but consider I drove so Simcoe 4 hours TWICE this season for perch ice fishing lol
Now consider if you got a charter for musky and hooked up with a few 40+ inch beauties and maybe even the elusive 50+er with a few buddies?!?! Great time.
There's a bunch of good guides down this way and come Sept-Dec the fishing turns up for muskies from Belle river to Lighthouse cove etc on St Clair.
I have become slightly addicted to fishing for them I get my walleye fishing and bass fishing in until September/October then focus mainly on Muskies - sometimes going over to mitchells bay for some world class smallies if the fishing is REALLY slow. And there's always walleye and perch lol
There's a guide here named Ian Jones - I Dont know him personally he usually lights it up in the fall I've seen a bunch of double digit days with customers on his boat fishing the thames river or the lake.
He's been very helpful to me with advice and I've never paid him a cent, a few tips from him got me my record year for #'s last year and personal best 49.25 inch tank of a musky.
If you have a boat and heavy enough tackle to fish for them then I'd say it's worth the drive down for a long weekend or something just troll around outside of lighthouse cove and follow the musky pack of boats for a general idea and for speeds - use navionics to find the break lines etc.
If you don't have a boat or the gear, a charter is a great way get one - you'd have way better chances than going on your own anyways for actually landing one - but I like the hunt and finding the spots myself but I've been skunked several times.
You'll likely even see one or two breach the surface crushing a fish in the distance on a calm day I usually see AT LEAST 1 or 2 smash something.....there's a reason it's called the best musky fishery on earth!!
Long story short, if you want to catch the musky sickness, Lake St. Clair is your best bet.

Correct. You need to be in a list to fish for them. In fact at this point you are not even allowed to fish for them if your fishing partner on the boat is not on that list as well. This rule may be changing this season, but the above comment is correct... it is not open season at anytime for Simcoe Muskies unless you are registered.
This is a popular forum, and I’d hate to see folk getting harassed by the ministry if they were tossing 15” Baits. In reality a big pike would smash any size muskie lure in the market, so you can fish for big pike... lol
I heard of some interesting ideas that might be coming down the pipe for this season... keep your ears open.
As well, the stocking program is done for now. There needs to be some studies conducted to see how the past years have done before more money is invested.
GB is the place to chase until Simcoe has a season... if ever. Lol
