Great pics man, and interesting that they are still shallow.
Gives an indication just much winter has NOT come to Simcow this year. Is about the water temps and they must be quite comfortable right now.
i deffinately plan to hit shallower, as i am expecting some safe ice starting again in a not too distant future.
I dont follow your comment?? Winter has not come? Its about water temps??? Why do you think they are were they are???
I am thinking that they are reacting to the low temps and still cruising the shallows regularly.
When the ice is thicker and much colder they tend to keep deep and occasionally wander shallow. But I am not really THAT experienced in shallows so definitely learning from your experiences this year.
I would think that, like last year, with lotsa ice and snow to block the sun, that area is going to be to cold to hang out, but rather to cruise now and then.

just MHO.
Sounds right to me. Now, where is a shallower water area with ice where i could hook and meet a laker or whitey (or two or three)?:-)

Mid winter on lake of the woods we used to target whities up in 6 FOW. That's using an auger extension with how thick the ice is. Lakers and whities will roam from 4-150 FOW in the winter the temperature is comfortable for them anywhere in the lake under the ice.
When they do move up shallow they are usually feeding and aggressive. Awesome to watch how crazy the Lakers can be in shallow.
Access to deep water is key, on the woods we would target reefs predominantly.
Haven't tried the shallow water thing on simcoe. Nice to see your success x bend!

"Meet a Laker or Whitey"???
What are you gonna do? Ask them to dance? Invite them home to meet Ma and Pa???

I think it would be really cool if you posted those videos you mentioned to youtube and shared the links with us on this forum. I'm sure thousands in the hard water community would love to see a laker hit lures in the shallows.

I will wait until i have time to edit the videos. Yesterday half way through the day I hit record on the one gopro and when I iced the whitie and looked at the camera it said full. Grrr. It was a pig too. Oh well. But the 587 videos so far this year will take a bit to go through. I will though take some time and share them with you guys very soon if i ever can find time on land:)))

xbend- what program do you use to edit gopro videos? I'm new to recording things with gopro and havn't tackled any editing yet but I certainly have recordings that need editing. not intending to hijack thread, just a quick question

Videos will be awesome but just the posts get me hyped, i was only going to concentrate on getting good at icing Jumbos this season but damn resisting gearing up for some whitefish/lakers is getting harder and harder.
