New to ice fishing this year doing my homework and learning for the future years. One thing I have noticed is Lake Simcoe is huge. I am by Cooks Bay and see all the post about Cooks Bay.

The Bay is different from north to south and from west to east. It seems Keswick freezes First, Gilford second, Lefroy was next up to the 5th on the west side, it then froze from the 6th before freezing at the 8th and beyond. Of course then breaking off and floating into the lake from the 8 th North. Being from the west side I don't know the landmarks on the east yet.

I would assume that the ice follows this pattern yearly even if it's only days apart. My point is Cooks Bay can have at least 5 different reports and for people that are new to the lake this could get confusing. Just my observations.

I am thankful for boards like this as I have learnt a ton here.

You've done some good homework, I was on the ice (between 5th & 6th line) Innisfil.
Walked out on Sunday,and here are my observations.
1. Ice was 3-4.5 inches MAX!

2. Ice was moving constantly.

3. 16 holes every 50 feet or so, went out 1.25 miles. ( I personally have never seen this in my 20+ years)

4. Unless the slab gets thicker and tighter over time.,,,
IM STAYING OFF LADY SIMCOE!
