I have 8 in my rod bag. Always some set up for panfish herring and some set for lakers and whities. Different actions and line. Not that it makes me a better fisherman, but if I screw up a line I can get back down quick with another rod. My rod bag holds8, I put in 7 and my 40" comes along in the sled. Also holds my tackle and other small accessories.

4 rods in the bag at all times 2 ultra lights - one is too sensitive to jig with, usually used with pickerel rig or tiny jighead and minnow, the other one is meant for jigging. 1 medium light and 1 medium

Like most I carry two rod cases for a total of 8 rods. But I confess I only ever use three. two set up for jigging light or heavy and one set as a tip-up. The rest is "just because" I can, you never know when you may need them.

When there is ice I usually have 10 rods with different lines and lures attached. I do not fish ppeeerrrrrcchhh so it is basically for whities, trout and ling.

3 rods tied and ready to go with 3 different presentations. I hate re-tying when I could be fishing. I usually see fish on the sonar when I re-tie and those are missed opportunities.

4 rods 1 for a set line with minnow 3 jigging rods with different lure on each. When they just wont hit the one lure but are interested reel up and drop down something else with no down time.
