I do have around 27 rods that covers everything except fly fishing. From super heavy to super light. 3 of them are for ice fishing. I do take with me usually 3 rods and I use mostly 2. Best rods: St.Croix, G. Lommis, Daiwa, BPS Carbon Lite, Rapala, Fenwick. Best reels: Shimano, Daiwa, I use only bait cast reels.

Hard water - for an all day/overnight trip - 6 that consist of 2 ultra light; 2 med; 2 heavy... all of which one rigged for live bait, the other hard/plastic baits; plus 2 tip ups; once a school shows up on the vexilar I don't want to waste my time tying something else on and I'd be too excited to tie a knot quickly lol. All of them readily available and organized.
Soft water - 8-10 and they stay in the boat. Always want to have a different presentation/rig ready. If I get a chaser on a lure to the boat and no strike after a figure 8 pattern, I want to be ready to toss out a plastic right away.
If I'm chasing chrome in the rivers - 1 on a float reel and a back up in the truck just in case.

Ah , ya got me. Used to have 60, but got rid of same and now down to 40
When on ice I just take a max of 4 though and mostly 3 plus a tip-up
For softwater 50 for sure and that's not counting the ones at the Cottage.

For hardwater, we take 5 rods between the two of us.
For softwater, usually have 6-8 in the boat and usually only use 2 each. 1 each with a dropshot rig and 1 each with braid, leader and snap swivel to change up lures.

I have 9 ice rods (3 light, 3 medium, 3 heavy) I usually only take the 3 that match the target fish with me. Also 3 balance style tip ups and 2 jigging sticks that are similar to the tip ups. They work well in a tight hut but can be challenging hand bombing 80 or a 100 feet of line. They are also handy for depth measurement when one wrap is about a foot, for those of us without electronics. Only thing missing is the kitchen sink.
