Okay so the word is out we have 8 to 10 inches yesterday on cooks bay I'm sure their are atv's and snowmobiles flying across the ice. The real question is can it hold a light sedan or small truck. I have never gone out on ice aside from on foot and I would love to have my car close while fishing. Everything that I read states that 8 to 12 inches is safe to drive on with small cars and trucks but I want to know from people who care about safety and the ice itself. would it be reckless to go out tomorrow with my car ? I am uneasy about it I would go as light as possible if you guys give me the green light. PM me if you like stay safe! Thanks everyone

8-10"? I thought cooks bay was a mess just last week...
Maybe i'm wrong, as I don't live around there. I swear I read that. Even Beaverton, which has had a decent amount of ice didn't have vehicles on it yesturday.
The way the ice has been and season, I wouldn't.
Why would you want or expect someone to pm you about it. Obviously you're really reaching to have someone say it's "ok".
*Edit: the hut operators in Beaverton didn't have vehicles on it. Can't comment on personal vehicles.

thank you for your comments yes I was wishing for the go ahead after my experience yesterday, but I will gladly take the advice from the members here as its never worth a risk. I went out to BP yesterday(first time) first person in the parking lot. I ventured out to the middle of the bay got set up and anchored to find my propane too cold to start my mister heater, I packed up and left without sending a line down or getting a depth reading. It was a disappointment as I have been envious of the guys catching lakers and whitefish in the deep water.

Shoreline at Cooks just got fixed up, the problem will be getting on or off, I would think personal vehicles should stay off all season, shoreline will fall apart soon as soon as it warms up. Just my 2 cents, stay safe.

Inconsistent temperatures this year has made not the best ice the lady has had in past... Walk walk although the reports I have had from Beaverton says anywhere from 8" to 12" but it's not 12" inches of black ice... Very inconsistent in some places all over the lake...

Keep it on the shore. I saw an atv break up the ice at the shore at 4th line which isn't far from Gilford. Shows how questionable the ice can be this year. I agree with Longshank 100%.
