Trust me! I for one, still prefer a car wash at my local gas station. It's way cheaper I am sure;-)

QUOTE (bills25 @ Feb 15, 2016 - 01:25 am)
Went out of port bolster the hut operator took us out in his jeep on the ice but he stressed he's been doing this for 30+ years and he knows what he was doing had all his trails marked.  I wouldn't go out of you don't know what your doing.  When he would drive by the hut a good 50 yards away you would here the ice cracking sounded scary but,  we knew it was him and if it was dangerous he wouldn't have been doing it so it want bothersome because we knew who it was driving by us.  There was about 22 inches of ice where we were fishing.  Best part he put us on fish didn't get anything huge.  But all nice size got a bunch of keepers between 11- 12.  The guys about 150 yards away from us in another hut ran by Randy, go a 16 incher.  Randy is great operator and guy when I go back he will be my go too operator.  You can tell just talking to him he knows what he's doing. Wanted to tip him but he wouldn't even take our money, and he is the cheapest out there charges 45 for they day and let's you stay out till 6 when most operators pick you up at 4pm.

22 inches of ice? Are you kidding me!!! Inreal! Unpossible!:-)

I wouldn't drive a car on 7.5"
My rule of ice thickness
3" black ice walk with caution
6" snowmobile with caution
Over 6" before i would take atv out
9" for my ice hut (800lbs)
12" before I would drive a car ,even more for a 1/2 ton truck
With the season we have had on Simcoe this year only a fool would say it's safe.
Shoreline and pressure cracks is always the biggest concern.
No matter how many fools you see driving on ice don't try it this year.
This coming from a guy who parked his CRV next to my hut almost every weekend Last year !

To jignhookz
No need to leave if your propane is too cold to ignite. Stick the bottle in your jacket for a few minutes and warm it up, or under your leg if you're sitting in a chair. Works like a charm.

Thank you for the suggestion I did get it going after warming it up but I was dissipointed and freezing negative 44 wind chill that day so I went n warmed up and warmed my tanks and got out to miners point but no luck just one bit that I missed . I'm trying to get a hold of Randy CARLTON to book a hut Bo no one is answering the phone. Anyways I'm not risking my car or my life thanks everyone and good luck in your fishing endeavors
