Hi Folks:

Went out for a spin on the lake around 1:00 p.m. and I was totalllllly amazed at what I observed.

Sitting in the middle of the channel on top of the ice were two beautiful swans enjoying the sun.

Anyone who knows me knows I would go out of my way to look at a swan of tow - so seeing them sitting on the ice not more than 70 yards away - really made my day.

Tried to take a few pictures without getting too close to spook them, however, due to the distance the pictures are of poor quality.

In my book, any day I can observe Mother Nature at her finest is a good day.

Hope you also had a great day.

That's all for now, Nancy

Nice Nancy ; Always nice to see those great birds, we have some stop by here in the river in Wasaga spring and fall..

My best sight on Simcoe was a mature Bald eagle landed 25 yds from me and was picking up minnows off the ice .. They are a "BIG" bird..

If you are ever in Stratford in the summer, take a walk down by the river. We have some 30 or so with clipped wings. And they are not mistreated I promise you that. They have it pretty good there! It's the cities bird. The "swan town" if you will. Very aggressive creature let me tell you. I don't put my fingers near them lol

Yes, they are wonderful to look at. We had a nice surprise one early morning when a family of swans decided to feed right by our trailer in 2014. They stayed their distance out in the reeds last year but hopefully will return again this summer.

We also have the luxury of seeing bald eagles nest within a 10 minute boat ride and usually there are 2 chicks every year.

Before the cold snap I was heading out to scugog, and the culverts on the causeway had open water for about 30-40 feet on either side. Area was jam packed with geese and about a dozen swans. Was quite a sight.

Hi Folks:

Thanks for your "amazing" stories. Great to hear about all the birds etc. and that they seem to be making a come back.

Poidy - I saw the story on the news about the injured swan. What a shame - hope it recovers and can be released back into the wild.

Steelheader - we have seen bald eagles around Snake Island but your experience is the best one I have ever heard, although, we see Blue Heron all the time and they have nearly landed on my boat a couple of times while I was in it.

Just checked and the swans are still sitting on the ice at 3:30 p.m. so maybe they will hang around for a while. Not sure what they eat (will have to do a Google search) and perhaps I can put some food out for them. It must be hard for them to find food when the lake is still frozen over.

Its a beautiful day so I am heading back out to enjoy the weather.

That's all for now, Nancy

No not there. I don't fish that are anymore......closer to the lake itself.

I think we have some big ones around here and they are nasty

Still a gorgeous bird, but not to mess with.

Thought I put a few photos up 2 years ago while I was "fencing them off" with my fishing rod beore I moved.

I was over by Lake Dalrymple on Sunday for a fiddle jam/square dance.

The water was open at the narrows where the highway crosses and there were 2 pair of swans there.

Last year I saw one swimming around the Barrie waterfront! It then took flight and gave me the most amazing visual right against the backdrop of the city, absolutely gorgeous birds!!

Tastes like chicken Sorry couldn't resist.

We see them hanging out at Orchard Beach every now and again.

Very graceful to watch.

Most I ever counted was 13 in our bay, when they take off like a horse race loud, few bald eagles around also a now and again the great grey owls from the north looking for moles and mice, yes swans they can be very protective of the nest and babies, sure takes care of out geese problem also... they don't seem to mind us, as parents have been coming for years
