We use these HT sandal cleats bought at Canadian Tire. We tried the rubber ones but they kept braking. They are convenient because they can slip on and off because sometimes you don't want to have cleats on your winter boots. They are usually expensive (around $50) but we picked them up on an end of season sale for 60% off.

I have been pleased with ICERS which Lee Valley sells. Canada Post has used these exclusively for several years as well as some of the EMR and fire crews. Studs are easily replaceable although I've never had to do this.

Had the ICERS for years as well, no issues, I'm happy.

Can't speak to BP hill though; I'm a tad too old for that sucker.

I have had many many different cleats, never purchased expensive ones, that just bugs me...lol

This year i have Eagle Claw Stainless from BPS for like $25.

AMAZING CLEATS...they never gave me any issues when walking, kneeling, setting up hut, walking up and down a hill on dry land AND on the road. They are pretty tough.

Very light and easy to put on over my big baffin boots. Once one they stayed in placed as the chains fit in the grooves of the tread.

Plan on getting a second "guest pair.

Not on the boot....

You slip the toe in the hole and stretch it over the heel...actually really easy.

Between the ICERS and the ones Alconakevin posted, i just might have myself a new set of cleats.

the ones i use are the cheapo $10 ones from Sail - they serve the purpose but they don't help going up billy goat hill that much and they've fallen off before.

Got a set of those on clearance at canadian tire as well. Love em, they work great, lets me really motor on slippery ice. Have to remember to slow down so my partners with no cleats can keep up.

Question for you guys that are studding the boots... do you notice a difference in how warm the boots are before/after studding?

I want to stud a pair, but worried it may compromise warmth somehow? Let moisture upwards into the sole maybe? I dunno...

X2, I bought mine at BO for the same price. Used them for the 1st time last weekend on glare ice and they worked awesome.

Best I have bought for the $

When I studded my boots, I added some high grade silicon before screwing the studs in for a seal. I have not yet noticed any water leaking in, nor have I noticed a change in temperature compared to when they were not studded.

Not every boot can be studded effectively, your soles need to be of a decent thickness and thread pattern.

You just answered what I was going to ask about using silicone.

Good stuff. Thanks.

Get hex screws and stud your boots. Don't need many, only about 10 or 12 per boot. Like walking on pavement. The less screws the better, they dig in better.
