Nothin better than researching a lake, putting your time in and finding a "Glory Hole" to loose a fish of a lifetime because it went for a run and got caught in some googins line while playing tug o war. Then there are the idiots that come over and see a nice fish in your hut and post the co- ordinents on Navionics and the like. Gheez

Maybe you're just being a @sshole like you mentioned. In situation like these, there is really nothing you can do if people set up close to you. Maybe the spot that they're at is their honey hole? I understand that you were there first and its annoying having people so close by but what are you going to do? B!tch and complain online or actually go over there and tell them that they're too close to you? I'm sure you rather just keep your mouth shut and put some fishes on the ice. Just make sure if you hook up to scream FISH ON!!! to kinda rub it in their face. That's pretty much all you can do or move somewhere else.
I I'm definitely not the type to go up and ask someone to move if they're as close as the photo i posted, if its any closer i might say something as they are drilling their holes (given its as deep of water i was in today) but until asking the question, i never knew what the rule of thumb really was. I try to keep it to 50-75yds minimum and keep to myself. I had a similar situation on lake st john last month where i had been there a few hours and someone posted up 50 feet from my hut and pulled up 4 walleye within 30 minutes while i got skunked, just my luck i guess... but that situation paired with todays brought me to raise the question so that im more aware when im out.

People like yourself have respect for others and expect to be treated the same way, but we both know it doesn't happen like that with certain people. You yourself wouldn't set up close to someone else and when you do you set up its a certain distance away. In times like these you bite your tongue and scream "Mother F*cker!!" inside cause there really isn't anything you can do. You're the better person and when you actually think about it, there Is no need to get mad over someone else's action cause in the end it will just ruin your mood for the day. At least you're out on the ice while many others like myself are stuck at work. Hope you can ice some nice fishes, good luck.

I heard twice the depth is acceptable, i try to keep to that. Was out on cooks in a hut a couple weeks ago and i heard a woman ask do you think we are too close to them? If i can hear you asking the answer is yes! Its a dilemma when its a honey hole ive marked before or structure that i wanted to fish, if im on a machine no problem easy to go elsewhere but i walked 30 mins to get to this spot that i marked before and i dont really want to wander around because someone else set up shop there.

With all the new people taking up ice fishing and the sport itself we are all going to have this happen one day or another... If you don't like it move or or man up and go say hi.. Some people seem to think they own the lakes they fish on. Lots of room out there and shouldn't be a problem.. How ever when you get the guys who cares more about drinking than fishing and are disruptive to the area then that's time to have a talk with them either shut the $%#@ up or move away from the people enjoying there day.... Just my thinking.... One thing I do know it's going to get worse.... The lakes I fish on up north of Nipissing might have two or three hot ice fishing locations on the lake so of course people are congregating in the same areas but up there we pretty much know everyone out but there are some strangers that come in as long as there not creating a disturbance they are welcome to the neighborhood/ice city!!!!!lol Why does fishing have to be so stressful... Lolololo..

for community holes you cant ask too much, but if there isn't muck people on ice at all I will be at least 100 yard away from others for deep water fishing. Shallow water 50 yard is good enough.

That's why I'm not a fan of Simcoe in the winter. I used to fish there in my cousins hut about 15 years ago, we made it a point to get far away from anyone else. I'm used to fishing in the Muskoka/Parry Sound area where there's nobody on the ice,( in comparison to Simcoe). I've only been out three times this year so far on some smaller to medium sized lakes and all three times I've been the only guy on the whole lake! I like Simcoes big lakers and whiteys but I'm not a big fan of fishing in a city.

We live in a "monkey see, monkey do" world.
Populations are up.
I am guessing that many folks who ice fish do so minimal times per season. They probably have no idea what the etiquette would be, much less care. Then there are those who simply don't care what you think.
In this environment yelling "hook up" is a recipe, a magnet for headaches as people around you think you have all the fish under you.
A%^&% are everywhere. You or I can also be considered one of them in the eyes of others.
Just need to get out there and enjoy your fishing day...........
Another reminder of fishing in crowds is worse elsewhere.
