What works on one lake, doesn't always work on another lake- different ecosystem usually.
Does the lake you plan on fishing have gobies, gobies and more gobies.
Oh ya, zebra mussels too??

Goby imitations and Vibratos work best for me recently.......

the lake we are planning on hitting is around sault ste marie and as far as i know it doesnt have any mussels or gobies its a very clean lake with not much fishing pressure, ive tried small jigging spoons and small jigs but the whitefish just seem to have it our for me..

Try a two way spreader with minnows on a tip up. Sometimes old school is best.

My suggestion would be use a tip up with spreader on bottom with small minnows then jig with another rod with a spoon good luck you can't go wrong with the minnows make sure there pin heads whities up north don't get as big as simcoe

yes we will be in a hut and as for the spreader ive never seen them up here because there isnt much of a market on whitefish the closest thing to a spreader is a pirkeral rig but i have a few of them and as many pinheads as i can get my hands on to because my buddy owns a bait shop so baits are no problem lol i have a flasher to which should help just curious do whities stay close to the botttom of the water coloum or are they all the way through?

Try going SMALL.....
2-3 ft above a tube I sometimes rig a #8 or #10 hook with a power nymph......
If your sonar is set up right, you will see the nymph and you will surely see the Whities "rise to the occasion"!
Barely move it, just like an insect struggling in the water.
This sometimes works very well on Simcoe for reluctant Whitefish.

Whities eat that stuff all the time.

Yes whiteys tend to stay closer to the bottom but they will rise up to about 20 ft if there active

I've had whitefish in simcoe chase a vibrado up 60 feet before hitting over 95 feet. In northern lakes for whitefish most traditional methods work well.
Small spoons such as any Williams made spoon should present well and as a finsey said a high hook with a rubber jig of sorts or even a small shiner can work amazingly.

Must add that having a fluorocarbon leader of no more then 10lb test is a must. I myself run 10-15lb power pro braid with a 6-10lb floro leader. Works great on simcoe.

I've done well up there with 2 way spreaders. and prebaited areas with macaroni, believee it or not.

also wigglers work on single line or 1 inch white grub imitations or real thing.

You can most certainy get this stuff in the Soo.
