Before I start the story........be aware that I fish with my wife regularly, so I need to buy 2 of everything.

When I saw the Walmart clearance deals.........I originally bought 2 Solstace reels and 2 rolls of 20# 832. (to get free shipping)

Then I decided I wanted some Sedonas, so I ordered 2 of them as well.

So I thought, what the hell......let see if the Mitchells are any good. So I ordered 2 of them and 2 more rolls of 20# 832 (to get free shipping)

Then the Solstace reels arrived. I tried them and thought....WOW!!! These are fantastic reels and only $15.00 ............I should have bought more! Damn it!!!

Then the Sedonas and Mitchells arrived. I was so impressed with the Solstace reels for $15............ I thought why should I keep the $40 Sedona's??

As for the Mitchell reels ......they were not what was advertised so they are definately going back. --Rear drag and not smooth enough for me.

So I kept an eye on the Walmart site, and luckily saw they changed the Solstace reels from "out of stock" back to "In Stock"!!!! Needless to say..... I quickly ordered 4 more Solstace reels. (and notified this board with an update that they were available again--- buy buy buy)

Now I have 10 reels sitting here and I have to decide what I'm keeping and what's going back.....

I think to myself......Let's see how the Sedona's compare to the Solstace reels. Fortunately.......one of the Sedona packages was open enough I could get the reel out. Great!

Where's the handle???? WTF??? There's no handle!!!

So I figure I'm taking the Sedonas back. ......Oh Wait!!!! Let me see if the handles are the same between the Sedona and the Solstace

Fantastic......they are the same! Let's try it.

Wow, this Sedona is feels really nice. ......Hmmm is it worth $40 for me to keep it? Well.....I'm not gonna find a nicer reel for $40, so let's keep it. I'll just return the Solstace package that I took the handle from.

Funny enough.....My neighbour happened to come by and see all my reels and he wanted one of the Mitchells that I'm going to return, so he got in on the action too.

Bottom line......I managed to put reels on all my rods that needed reels. I'm keeping a total of 5 Solstace and 2 Sedonas.

Good deal on the braid so I order 2 spools of the 20, 2-30 and 2-40. Got the box today opened it up although I paid for 6 spools I only got 4. Hmmm not such a great deal now. Sent a complaint to walmart will see what they do.

For fans of the now discontinued Berkley Cherrywood, the CDN Tire in Keswick has about half a dozen of them on clearance for $29.99. I picked one up and put my new Solstice on it, so this very nice combo was only $45 total

The Mitchells the sent me did not match the packing slip order in the box. I was supposed to receive Avocet gold 3000 reels and they sent me Avocet RZ 2500 reels. This would indicate to me that they are doing their best to fulfill the orders coming in with available stock. In fact, the RZ model had a UPC sticker over the original package UPC.

They were returned without any issues today.

I was just in Walmart in Orillia and they still had 2 Sedonas on on the shelf priced at $50. If you want them, go in and do a price match with their own website pricing of $40.00

Or you can try CT Orillia which had one on the shelf at $54.00 and try to price match WM.

I never tried the Cherrywoods, but my wife and I are both big fans of the Lightning 5'6" Light. If you can get a hold of one of those on the cheap......give it a try.

I have found the slightly extra 1 or 2 oz in reel weight really balances a lot of my rods very nicely as they're generally tip heavy.
I'm sure your Cherrywood is probably similar to feeling well balanced now as well.

Can't go wrong with that deal you got for $45........You must be laughing all he way to the bank!

I was in my local WalMart store today and noticed hanging in a section labelled "clearance" about 30 reels on sale. Prices ranged from $15.00 to $40.00. Most people would think these items are sold out but check out the clearance section... You just might find your pot of gold there! I didn't pick up anything as I have enough reels to last me the next twenty years.
