Looking to sand scratches and clean an aluminum boat...no paint on it.

I plan on removing the decals and sanding with 240 grit - up to maybe 800-1000 grit.

Will this give the aluminum enough of a polished look or dull sheen that is 'good enough' or do I have to buff it with a compound and a buffer?? Not really interested in making it shine just want it clean and nice looking....

thanks for any insight.

Give scotch brite a try. You can get it in different grits and it will hide minor scratches and give you a good finish

Polished the pontoons on my boat with old still rubbing compound worked great

I work for an aluminum dock manufacturer and we use 0000 steel wool to polish the docks for tradeshows. It removes those light scratches as well as oxidation.
