Meant to post this last week. 7 of us went up on our annual Super Bowl fishing trip to Callander Bay. Big shout out to Rob Hyatt for once again giving us a great outing. We fished from 12 to 23 feet of water and had good success at those depths. Although we caught less fish than last year; we ended up with a better quality catch. Almost all of what we hauled through the ice were pickerel. Most of which were not in the slot so it made for nice fish fries each evening. We fished part of Friday afternoon and all day Saturday and Sunday. Caught just over 30 pickerel and about 15 or so perch. We got some pretty nice hits that did not result in landing - huge pike was brought right to the hole before snapping line. Weather was exceptional. I personally did not enter a hut unless it was to grab some food - fished outside whole time.
Shiners on split shot worked well. Did some drop shotting which resulted in a few strikes. Simple presentation on light to medium action rods or tip-ups.
Good luck to the rest of you lucky folk heading up there.
