Spent this morning fishing one of my favorite lakes (Pigeon) and wasn't having any luck locating fish willing to bite. I tried all of my usual baits with not a single nibble. So I decided to experiment with something that I bought months ago but have never tried.

I rigged up a drop shot on a spinning rod and fished out of the bottom of my tackle box a package of plastic night crawlers. I had also bought a package of rubber rings for a wacky rig. Sliding the drop shot hook only through the ring only and flipped it in and around weed beds. It only took 5 minutes before I had a smallmouth in the boat. After thinking about what just happened and "how", I tried to replicate it on future flips. In the end, I boated 10 smallies (all less than 2lb) and had a 25+" muskie next to the boat before it either bit through or broke the hook. Good end to a frustrating morning.

Nice going Goshawk. Most people think of drop shotting as a deep water technique but it's great for keeping plastics in the strikezone when fishing weeds.
