Fished my favorite kawartha lake on sat. and did what we did last year around this time thinking then it was a fluke. It wasn't, we were averaging 1-2 lb. blue gills in 40' of water. We were in non-stop action for 45-minutes linder calls them bull-gills, we call them sweet meat. Also caught our limit of walleye.

we each caught 50 apiece in that 45-minute span, by the time the school moved we quit, we could have followed but our arms and wrist were hurting big gills fight hard and we had enough. apperantely the schools moves like crappie.

I haven't meet a fisherman yet that didn't stretch the truth about his/her catch - guilty as charged in fact, I lie all the time about my catches rounding up!!! but, what the pics don't show is the girth of their backs, you can kinda see the fatness just below the heads.

Nice gills! Did you weight them or guessing? I never weighted a gill yet and wonder if I ever caught any pushing 2 lbs. 1-2 lbs any pan fish is a great catch. You sitting on the mother load is a great find!

you can tell the ones on the far right and the top left all have some good shoulders on them. Don't know about the 2lb mark, but I have no trouble believing a number of those ones would be over a lb. I've caught a few bulls like that before as well (also in sept/october time frame) and can attest that they are in the kawarthas and elsewhere in southern ontario.

Definitely not saying that noone else does it or anything like that and the only reason I even brought it up is because 2lbs would be over the Canadian record that has witheld for 21 years and to do it for a fishing trip on "average" would be to me a little bit of a stretch.
But that's enough of that. I wasn't trying to take away from your great day and great catch as it was. Anytime you go home with a bunch of thick tasty gills like that you know it was a successful trip.

I have a tough time posting pics i usually have to do it twice because it dosen't take the first time. As i said in the last post that didn't go through. I find it weird to weigh gills but I prorbaly came close to the record and if I didn't i bet this lake has the record. I have 2-pics that are very close to 2lbs. but can't get it to post.
