So was supposed to have a tournament on Sunday but it got cancelled on the absolute last minutes notice. We decided to go fishing anyway and have a tournament of Our Own. We decided to mix the rules of Major League Fishing as you see on TV where you can weigh in as many fish as you catch which will add to your total weight and decide the winner with the rules of the Big Bass Challenge where the biggest bass of every hour gets a prize. We decided to make it $2 goes to the winner of each hour who has the biggest fish that hour. And $5 for the biggest overall weight. Not lots of money but it can add up and it's mostly bragging rights that we are going for. And just like Major League Fishing we needed to add some violations. We decided to make pike a violation , a wrong species violation. If you catch a pike you have to pay a dollar to the winners pot lol. It can get pretty funny as those Pike seemed to come out of nowhere when you don't want them LOL Anyway here is the play-by-play. We fished for 10 hours and so it was 10 Rounds.

We started out a little after 7 and so made the first rd 730 until 8:30

RD1 /10

it's a nice day out for October there is a fog on the water and the temperature in the air is a little bit warm and it feels like it's going to be a good day. And With that thought it starts out with a bang. Beers lands the first fish. A chunky 2 lbs 12oz large and is first on the board. Topwater and I have about 50 minutes now to beat 2lbs 12oz. It didn't take long before topwater strikes next. Not even 3 minutes later he's on the board with a fish. It's Another fat largie but weighs just short at 2lbs 8oz. Now I'm the only one not on the board but seconds later I blast onto the scene with a 3 lbs 1oz large. We haven't even been fishing 15 minutes and have 3 fish and are all within half a pound. It feels like it's going to be an amazing day. Only a few minutes later beers sees a largie coming out of the weeds as he reels in to try and go for it I look down and see a largie of my own I quietly throw my senko in front of it and with topwater watching over my shoulder we see the bass casually go over and inhale my senko.
Now I'm on the board with another. This one is 2 lbs 7oz which is the smallest fish of the day but still a nice fish and nice that it helps put me out front.
3 lbs 1oz is winning for the hour and there is still half an hour of fishing left so this hour seems up for grabs although the bite seems to slow down quite a bit. We notice it getting chili out as well and feel as if there is a cold front moving in and so it might be shutting them down.
We decide to move spots at the end of the rd.

Rd 1 goes to putaforkinya.

And the total score is
1 Putaforkinya 5lbs 8oz
2 beers 2lbs 12 Oz
3 topwater 2lbs 8oz

Rd 3/10

We change it up a little and go for smallies, Beers lands on the board early with a 1 lbs 5oz smallie. We have 40 minutes to beat that weight but the problem is the bite is still off. How ever it is almost 10am now and the weather is heating up.

Rd 3 goes to beers with 1lbs 5 Oz

Total score now is

1 Putaforkinya 5lbs 8oz
2 Beers 4lbs 1oz
3 Topwater 2 lbs 8oz

Rd 5/10

Sun is out and Rd 5 starts out with a vengeance, I land another 3 lbs 1oz largie which brings me back into the lead by a pound. And the bite stays hot problem is they're all pike. In fact we've seem to found pike ally and remember each one caught is adding money to the pot. Topwater hooks the first one and gets "lucky" getting it to come off at the side of the boat. A few casts later though another one bites and he isn't so lucky. Then another.... and another. We are all laughing as they seem to love him and they are not helping his cause. Then I get a pike on that I know is a pike right away and a big one at that. Actually my biggest pike of the season it was a great fight and worth the contribution to the pot.it's the next small pike that I'm not so happy about. I'm leading the rd and the total pot but beers then sets the hook on a good one. $^&/ I say as soon as he says got one as I know my lead is gone and my rd is in jeapordy. It falls short of my 3 lbs 1oz fish at 2lbs 9oz but is e ought to put him back into the lead overall.

Rd 5 putaforkinya
Total score
1 beers 10 lbs 03oz
2 putaforkinya 8lbs 9oz
3 topwater 2lbs 8oz

Rd 6/10

With all the pike commotion none of us even noticed that the new round had started. I land a bass that weighs 1 pound 11 ounces. When I look at the clock it is 12:31 which means a new round has started and I'm already on the board it's also good to know that I'm now winning the overall battle by one single ounce. I know it's not likely gonna hold but it does keep the pressure on my competitors for the next 59 minutes. Topwater catches a 10oz bass and then I catch a 10oz bass right after. They don't help huge but they do help out.
Especially me who is now in the lead.

Rd 6 putaforkinya

1 Putaforkinya 10 lbs 14oz
2 beers 10lbs 3oz
3 topwater 3 lbs 2oz

Rd 7/10

The bite slows and I have to start switching up lures. I figured the sun was out now and I knew just the ticket needed. As soon as I made the switch boom I catch a 2lbs 15oz largie. But he looked so much bigger as the MLF judges say "do u accept?" But this I couldn't accept lol.
I weighed her 3 times but unfortunately it was the same weight every time and I was forced to accept.
Then shortly after top water gets one on I glance over and notice that my same lure that I just switched over to hanging out of the fishes mouth.
When I changed baits and it worked he did the same and it payed dividends. You can imagine that it wasn't long before we were all using this lure/method. Problem is now it started bringing in the pike like crazy. We were able to get most of them off at the boat but we had some real close calls LOL.

Rd 7 putaforkinya

2 beers 10lbs 3oz
3 topwater 5lbs 4oz

Rd 8/10

The day is winding down and I have a small lead. Every fish now is crucial as things can change in an instant and it does.

Beers lands a 2lbs 12oz smallie and lost a couple more meanwhile I can't buy a bite at this point. That fish puts him behind me by only 2 ounces.
Then to add insult to injury he says it now time to put on his lucky jig. And wouldn't you know it FIRST pitch a 4lbs largie.
I'm now on the ropes with the clock winding down.

Rd 8 beers
Total score

1 beers 16lbs 15oz
2 putaforkinya 13lbs 13oz
3 topwater 5lbs 4 oz

Rd 9/10

It's time to get serious I put on my lucky senko that only worked once all day for a fish that I site fished and it didn't disappoint. Wasnt long before my line goes screaming. 2lbs 8oz
This puts me back into contention. I'm 10 ounces off but still every second counts and all time is of the essence and of course that's when something happens to waste your time the most LOL a boater yells at us from across the bay. He keeps waving us over to come help him so of course we have to. We go over and notice that he has a pike in a net at the side of the boat. He tells us that he caught a fish and he doesn't know what to do. It was kind of funny to be honest. The pike was so wrapped up in the net that we had to cut the net to get it out. He said he has been fishing 4 years and all summer and this is his first fish so he wasn't sure what to do LOL
We helped him out but when it was all said and done we noticed storm clouds and heard thunder in the distance. We had to rush back and decided to fish our last hour fairly close to the launch just in case we had to run in.
I'm trailing by 10 oz and was not about to let weather get in the way of victory.

Rd 9 putaforkinya

Rd 10/10

Rd 10 the final rd and the one where everything can change. We've got under an hour left for this one due to the guy we helped out and who knows what the weather is going to do and so for me of I'm going to win thos I'm. Going to have to win fast.
I stick on a loud bright crankbait, load it up with scent and start casting left right and center. topwater is still keeping the pike away from our lures by seemingly catching every one in the lake, and beers is desperately trying to hang on to his lead. This hour was exciting to say the least. Both beers and I were pretending to set hooks on fish to make the other guys head snap back nervously and when we'd get a pike on we'd pretend it was a big bass right up until it was at the boat lol.

In this final rd though I struck the first blow I needed only 11 ounces to take the lead but I caught a 2lbs 5 Oz largie
Then a 2 lbs 4 oz , time was crunching down so fast I didn't even stop to take a pic of this one. I knew that with one more even 3 pounder I would lose and especially since beers seems to find these big 6 pounders when the time is needed. I kept going and with a few minutes left Its looking good.
I bring in an 11 ounces which would end up being the last fish of the tourney. I got the win. A GREAT day for us all I have never seen weather like this in October. This was amazing and we all had a great time on the water. Calmest water I've been on all summer. I had a great time with great company and best of all no flat tires, no broken props, and in fact nothimg went wrong at all, I didn't even so much as lose a fish. Could my luck be changing? Only time will tell.

Thanks for reading.

Rd 10 putaforkinya

Final total.

1 Putaforkinya 21lbs 4oz
2 beers 16lbs 15oz
3 topwater 5lbs 4oz
