With the fall season coming quickly, a lot of fish including small ones are feeding to put on weight for winter. As a result of this, I've caught many bass that are the same size or even smaller than the lures that I've been throwing.

Pictured below is a size 8 X-Rap that a smallie of about the same length (2.5" maybe) tried to make a meal out of.

How about you? What small fish have you had attack your larger baits?

Years ago I caught a 2.5 inch pike on little lake casting a 6 inch jerk bait. Didn't even know I had a hit, thought it was a piece of weed on the hook.

I usually use minnow caught from the lake, no luck with lures personally, but I caught a bluegill last week on a minnow almost the same size as the bluegill. The minnow was hanging out of the poor bluegills mouth and he couldn't get it down it was too big for his throat! Had to take the minnow out before we could even get the hook out. Little guys are extra scrappy now too! jumping out the water and everything

They are not eating but chasing, hitting the lure out of aggression trying to protect their territory. Small fish learn quickly in order to grow big they need to chase out the competition .
