Muskie today. Cancerous growth?

Caught this guy today. Have been told this is a contagious cancerous growth and that it should be killed. Have never heard that before. Any thoughts?

Looks like a similar growth on a muskie that Mackfisher posted about earlier.

Yup looks identical to the one I caught. Absolutely disgusting lol but nice fish BTW! I released mine back into the lake
