BEWDLEY - A 45-year-old Durham Region man is dead after he was pulled from the chilly waters of Rice Lake east of Bewdley on Friday morning and a second man is missing.

Emergency responders were called to the scene near Halstead Beach Road, on the south shore of Rice Lake, just before 8 a.m. Friday, OPP Const. Jason Folz stated.

The man's body washed up on shore. The man was wearing a life jacket.

After CPR was performed at the beach, paramedics took the man to Peterborough Regional Health Centre where police said he was pronounced dead.

Ugh, that's horrible. My condolences to the families. I had the day off and was planning to go to the rivers on either end of rice to fish today, but ultimately decided not to as I figured the winds would make it too risky. Glad I chose to stay home.

Horrible,Tragic! Another example of the dangers of boating in conditions not favorable in the least! Winds were gusting over 50k this morning.Common sense must be used in these conditions! People must respect the water and weather conditions!!

I'm sorry to hear about this tragedy. Condolences to the family. Please be careful this time of year wind and water never a good mix, especially with colder temps.

Last I heard they are still looking for a second man. The name of the deceased has not been released. He was from Durham. They found the trailer and car. Pictures here

Talked to the police at Harris Boat Works marina. They are still searching but are considering suspending the search soon.

I am family of the missing man. I and the family appreciate all the condolences offered and we would like to put a plea out to those of the rice lake area to search their properties and any seasonal neighbours properties, for him - wooded lots, sheds, shorelines or anywhere a man may crawl too to escape the elements. The missing man has fished rice lake for no less than 15 years, an avid experienced boater, is a survivalist and strong swimmer. We are not asking anyone to take to the lake or interfere in anyway with search and rescue and opp investigation. Things are not adding up for the family and we are really struggling with his tragedy and moving on.

Despite the post saying that the police and rescue teams are giving up, we the family, were told the exact opposite of that the night after that post was made. I want that poster to know that his post hurt people in the family and has caused some of the family to no longer trust the opp or search and rescue. Family has been to the lake while the search was ongoing and they would tell us nothing much, yet some officer gossiped about this very private matter to a stranger who then posts to the internet. We were and are disappointed.

Thank you to all for any help and all kind words.

My prayers to you and your family.

There will be all kinds of broken telephone and who said this and who said that. I am very sure they will not give up searching. I am sure the thousands of members on this board and the many who fish Rice Lake will look out for any signs.
