Hey everybody,

Never posted on here before but I will admit I have been reading others posts regularily for the last year or so. I thought today would be a good day to contribute for the first time.

Today I drove to canal lake to cast from shore for anything that would bite... I am impatiently waiting for the ice fishing season and thought I might as well try to catch something to tide me over!

I arrived at the lake to find that 90% of the lake had a thin skim of ice. Bittersweet as I was looking forward to wetting my line. I decided to drive around to check out some near by lakes. Mitchell has ice as well as Raven (only about half an inch). Hopefully we get some more cold weather and can get out on the ice before Christmas.

Cheers,

Grangling

We had a good skim of ice on Chemong last week but it melted. Back to square one again. Once we get 2 inches or so it doesn't have to be overly cold to continue making ice from the bottom layer. Problem is forecast looks to be just around freezing or a little above this week.

We'll see, last year was late too. I almost went out in the boat on Boxing Day for open water crappie.

Yeah don't think this skim will last but the long term forecast is looking decent. Hope I'm not stuck on shore for too much longer.

Right now they are calling for it to stay below freezing for at least the next couple of weeks. Hopefully that happens.
