Can see two portables out across the lake from pleasant point.
Holy! Whoever is out fishing Sturgeon today must be braindead. I drove down Long Beach road today to see what it was like and although the whole lake is frozen there are some dark spots that look really thin. Be careful out there! Jumbos aren't worth dying for!!

Ill be checking the ice tomorrow. I think it will be fairly safe ice out front of pleasant point (3+ inches). To assume there was less than that is uneducated guess at best. Maybe those guys had all their safety gear on and are not afraid of a little dip. Some people think just because you go through you are going to die. That's just not true. Go prepared to fall through the ice every time your on it ( Survival suit and ice picks) and you will survive to fish again. Going on the lake in multi layered none floating clothes, drinking like an idiot with no thought of consequences and you get what you get.

How long until MMM's no longer online should we take a poll?

Took a course a few years back put on by Firefighters in ice safety. They make a whole and you have to jump in and sit for 1 min then try to get yourself out. Also put myself through 2 times in 5 fow to practice survival . I'm no expert but I'm safer than the average guy. I'm not saying to go on thin ice on purpose but I think those guys may have been on 3-4 inches of good ice( which is considered safe if you follow the ice thickness guide) If I find less than 4 " I turn back.

Checked out Pleasant Point today and there's about 2.5" of soft ice. Was able to chisel my way through after 6-8 solid hits. STAY OFF! It's coming along but still sketchy.

I checked in the bay at pleasant point today and found 6 inches of ice. 2 inches of good solid black ice and 2 inches of white ice and 2 inches of crappy frozen snow. I only ventured out to 5fow which is only about 25 steps. The ice had about 4 inches of snow on it aswell. Another 20 steps out I could see the water was coming up and making some very sketchy looking areas. All that being said and the temps rising it's going to be a while before I go out fishing. I'll update again when some more real cold nights hit us.

I am sure you know what you are doing. I was just pulling at your chain. I myself have fallen through the ice once completely and once only one leg went through. When I went completely through the first time was in January and I was probably 16 I could not get out and probably would have died if I were by myself my best friend risked his life to pull me out. This was before I learned how you are supposed to get out. Which is important for all of us to learn. I will also start a thread with this because I think its good for everyone to see.
If anyone hasn't been taught how to get out of the water you owe it to yourself to take a few minutes to watch this video it can save your life or a fishing partners through your direction.
