December 22 2016 s update. There's is about 7 inches close to shore and straight out from the boat launch at about 75 steps it's only 3. The 3 is good black ice but it does have a lot of bubbles in it. On top of that 3 there is at least 3 inches of water and slush. There were prints going out even farther than I was but at 3 inches I turned back. Somebody was driving a snowmobile out there on 3 inches or less. With the weather the way it looks you will need to tread carefully to get out. Wish I had better news for you. Have a Merry Christmas.

Thanks for your report but the boat launch you mentioned is the one at Long Beach or pleasant point.

Fishing right now at pleasant point. 9 fow, 6 inches, 3 inches black ice. 7 fow 7.5 inches, 4 inches of black ice. Saw a couple crazies going across snug harbour on sleds in the river. Rumour is 9 inches of ice in goose bay. FYI I'm not at the launch at pleasant point, haven't measured there. I'm half way between there and the bouys by the landings. Will post pics if get anything.

Lucky you, sounds not bad about the ice, wish you have luck in the first ice.

Word is out, a bunch of pop up huts out today. If you don't know the area I recommend staying away from snug harbour and the moorings, as the river is always the last to freeze.

I have not tested everywhere but infront of pleasant point the ice was 8 before the big rain. Last night was extremely cold so any spots that were weakened would be tightened up today. Stay away from flowing water areas and you SHOULD be fine.
