Crappie Through the Ice, Best Lake ?

Hey all, with the Ice season fast upon us I was wondering what you feel like is the best lake to pull crappie up through the hole ?

I will fish Simcoe for Perch / Lakers / Pike / Whiteys. However I haven't been able to find the crappie bite too well.

Any other honorable mentions for blue gills would be welcome. Thanks guys !!

There is that one lake that I know that has a healthy population of slabs but I just can't remember what it's called for the life of me...

Minnesota and Wisconsin area lakes are known to produce great winter crappie fishing. Tons of info online on where to go.



Seriously... Some of us on here have been generous with better than average information over the years. It's really a matter of doing some research and getting out and trying. Trial and error goes a long way.

The first time I went ice fishing I found a pretty good Crappie spot and have had consistent success there. I think it's called Lake Nunya. Nunya business

I was sitting on a lake this morning that has a very high number of slabs in it. That is until I flushed the toilet.

Wow really ? If someone asks a lake with a good walleye / bass / musky population its not a big deal. But I ask if any body of water has a better than average crappie population and everyone turns in to trolls.
Obviously I know trial and error and doing leg work is needed.
Just thought if I narrowed down some fisheries that's a good way to start.
On this forum I've stated my favorite lakes for walleye and bass and told members how I had been catching them.
Really gives me faith in the members in this site now.
I live an hour and a half away from the nearest kawartha lake so that's why I asked in the first place.
I didn't even ask for a spot. Literally a lake and everyone freaked out.

My secret map to the best crappy fishing around. But truthfully there are so many people who go on this site that never give back in giving anything out or are even members. I have given people info on spots to fish without even one thanks after answering their PM's.

HINT I will say it's more about time of day then where to fish. Drive to a lake anywhere and talk to anyone who's fishing on the lake and ask them questions. The only thing is if you see someone catching anything don't set up shop right next door. If you can hit the person with a snowball then you're tooooo close.

You're welcome I'm pretty sure there are Crappie in all the Kawarthas. As for Bluegill they usually school with Crappie.

Yes no one is going to tell you where the best lake for crappie numbers are, this is always a big kept secret, as they are highly sought after both for the sport of catching and most importantly in the pan. Yes there are crappie pretty much everywhere in the Kawarthas, but they can be very difficult to locate and catch consistently, unless you spend many hours patterning them and their seasonal movement. Not to mention time of day patterns as well. I agree some of the comments here are way out in left field, but you have to understand it's the in bwt period while we all wait for ice and these fishing addicts are starting to get restless. They are mostly just joking around, don't take it personally. Your best chance for winter crappie is find them locally and then pattern them. I will give you a hint, lake Scugog, high population of crappie, although numbers seem down recently due to heavy fishing pressure, but they are in there if you know when and where.

Yeah I could understand if this was my first or second post, however I've been a member sharing information for almost 3 years.
I know there are crappie in every lake in the kawarthas, that's why I asked for your favorite or best fishery / fisheries to help narrow down the options. As I said I tried simcoe for them but only located perch on numerous occasions.
