Wow. Didn't take long for you guys to rip him to shreds over crappie? Are they really that elusive? Well if you're in the kawarthas my advice to you would be to fish scugog or rice for them 7-9 feet of water around weeds. Best time is around dusk, good luck.

There is a pattern on Simcoe which I've been following every year with some success but it's also a huge pain in the arse. Don't waste your time trying to find them in the day is all the advice I can give.

Certain fish are harder to catch consistently, unless you know what your doing and have done the leg work. I still have a hard time catching crappie with any kind of numbers, I do get get where a few are coming from.. Lots of the guys I know who have great luck with them, have done the leg work. Their secrets remain secrets, for a reason. Lol Hope you find yourself a honey hole, lots of good info on google too.

I used to catch crappie a few years ago. It was pretty hard to find and fish em which would explain the secrecy. I remember them tasting good but not that good...

I have no Idea how they taste and I'm nowhere near 50, I was just trolling Some people were cooking some up when I was on the ice before though and they smelled delicious. Everybody else was being a tool so I thought I'd join the fun

i have had a lot of luck for blue gills just off of the marina on pigeon happy days house boats. located near the sand bars. there never is to many guys out.. the key is get to the deeper water.. the fish seem to school up in the holes about 15- 20 feet deep because everywhere else almost freezes bottom lol.. I just use small jigs with either a chunk of worm or a pink grub. good luck!!

That is also a good point. But to his defence I don't think he was asking for your secret spot/lake. Just a lake to get him started.

All kidding aside when I was a kid not too long ago Crappies were abundant there and I enjoyed ice fishing for them while watching the skaters on the pond nearby! There are likely trophy Crappie in there!
What do you consider "not too long ago"?
Hopefully I'll catch you out there soon. I sold my flasher and bought a bunch of slip bobbers since you turn to electronics.

Most of the time when I go out it's crappie. I get my plenty of share. The day is crappie, the fishing hole is crappie, not to mention the traffic getting there is crappie
