Anyone tried the Jaw Jacker

it think santa will be bringing me one of these little units. Wondering if anyone has tried them out , any tips or tricks. What kind of rod are you using?

Thought it would be great for the second line with some live bait.

I had one a long time ago, found out the hard way that you can't use them in Michigan. I liked it while it lasted, stick to my tip ups now....

I think I've read somewhere that on Lake Simcoe, no automatic hook setting devices are allowed. Trying to find where I saw it again. Can anyone else help me confirm?

You are not allowed to use a spring assisted device. The jaw jacker is just your rod under tension so it is allowed. It operates in a similar fashion to a trolling down rigger.

A. Yes it's legal. B. I have only used mine once as I am mostly in the hub now. It got triggered once but I didn't catch anything. I think if the weather is. Ice and u r outside with no freezing holes they will work. Lots of YouTube videos showing them in action. I use a m/h rod on mine with braid and floor. If anything it's a great rod holder.

I find my second rod will start moving, and by the time i put my jiggin rod in a holder and grabbed the dead stick rod ive lost the fish.

Ya its just a rod under tension like a downrigger rod, when it releases it sets the hook for you.

I picked up two last year and love them. Always had great luck, took some practice getting the drag set up properly so the hook set is firm but not so rigid it pulls out of the lip (also depends on the rod). Once you find the sweet spot they work amazing. Freezing holes can be a problem sometimes though, i usually just push the slush from the hole to wind blown side and create a small wall to help. Definitely recommend as an alternative to the standard tipup
