Hi Folks:

Spoke to a relative today and they have been out ice fishing near Manitoulin Island on 3-4 inches of ice (not far off shore - about 10-20 feet) and they have been catching plenty of rainbow trout.

If anyone is desperate to go ice fishing and/or wants a good feed of rainbow trout and is willing travel - head north to Manitoulin Island.

Merry Xmas to all.

That's all for now, Nancy

That's great news, have to wait for Santa to take care of my little one this weekend.
Then I'll be on the ice as much as possible in the new year, can't wait.
Merry Christmas to you an the family Nancy

Just a reminder on the regs on page 7;

You may only catch and keep in one day or possess no more than five trout and salmon in total under a Sport Fishing Licence (S – 5) or two trout and salmon in total under a Conservation Fishing Licence (C – 2). NOTE: In addition to the aggregate limit, you may not exceed individual species limits where they are otherwise stated (e.g., the S limit for Atlantic Salmon is one and you may not catch and keep or possess more than one Atlantic Salmon at any time).

The way I'm reading it, Fishchaser67 is correct on a individual species limit of 2.

Got to read past page 7, Manitoulin Island is zone 10, Lake huron side zone 13, Georgian bay side zone 14 In all cases its 2 rainbows, sports 1 conservation.
Please reread appropriate sections and act accordingly.

Yup you can keep 5 bows off the north side off manitoulin, one of the reasons I've always wanted to try up there.

Hi Folks:

Just a quick update to my earlier post on this thread as follows:

1. Grampa - I don't know exactly where my relative was fishing around
Manitoulin Island but they live near Little Current.

2. Dbfish - I grew up in the north and my favourite uncle lived in Elliot
Lake and he loved to fish. The best fish I have ever eaten was rainbow
trout he caught through the ice in the Elliot Lake area. I am sure the
fishing will be great in and around Elliot Lake in February. I am also
99% certain that there will be plenty of safe ice in the Elliot Lake area
in February.

That's all for now Nancy

Don't blame you on giving up any spots, grampa. With so many different zones and exceptions in that area, goes to show everyone (including myself) how important it is to know what area you are fishing in and to check the regs accordingly.
