I went for a walk around Tudhope park last night. It was ice as far as I could see. No footprints on the ice yet, I'd imagen it's still pretty thin. With the mild weather there's huge puddles forming on top at spots. Looking at the forecast, ice making could be on pause for a week.

Honestly guys only way to find out is a drive with the weather pattern changing. But from day pics it looks to be frozen but not for long. I wouldn't go, and if you do pack your gear as if you are expecting to fall through. Maybe that will make someone realize walking on unsafe ice before the operators are out isn't smart or the fact it's the holidays season. Just think of the stress you could put on your family if you fall through.
I'm sure it's thick enough to walk on the shore line but out far you can't expect there to be that much ice, and if there is water puddling like nathanf said then for sure it's honeycombed in those spots which is not good at all and is probably ready to break apart.
Anyone looking to fish simcoe this weekend ought to think 3 things before going 1) can I get out if I fall through 2) do I want to do this to family if you gotta go to hospital for exposure 3) is it worth it to go to simcoe when it'll probably be ready by end of January, when a lot of back lakes already have safe enough ice...Also I've heard a rescue bill can be hefty.
Personally I'm only going to a lake I know someone to live on in the Bancroft area and that's the only way I feel safe currently. Relying on info through here can be unreliable during early/late ice, only because this weather can change ice conditions in a very short time, ask anyone that fished last hard water season.

I think it's better to wait until the new year in January for more cold weather to make thicker ice which is safer to be on, and fish another day, then to go now on thin unsafe ice and go through the ice which might be your last outing for ice fishing!

I've been out on couchaching about 4 days already this winter. Ice is anywhere from 4-6 inches in the spots I've fished. Lots of pike action but not many perch. Heading out again in the am.

Hey guys, I'm heading up to Barrie with a buddy come Thursday, if Couch has ice we are interested in going fishing after we pick our stuff up. Wondering where id have access and parking to the lake. And for the person going out tomorrow, how much ice is there? Enough for a portable hut (About 75 pounds I believe)?

What do you weigh 74lbs???i would think if the ice could support your body weight it could support a 75lb hut. Unless you ride horses for a living. Might be a better idea to spud your way out and get first hand knowledge. Or bring water wings.

I mean the hut alone is 75 pounds, once you add the two of us we are pushing 450-500 pounds. Will definitely spud my way out, but don't want to go to find we needed a boat to fish.
