Seeing how Scugog is closed for eyes, I thought I'd target crappie. What should I be looking for ? Any specific depths ? Now i have caught them before but only as incidentals while walleye fishing. I'm hoping to try Scugog and Rice lake... Cheers !

Chevy you are better to head to Simcoe! They have been catching crappies like mad on the south end of the lake and if the crappies aren't biting you will catch jumbo perch. Not the dinks that come out of Scugog and Rice. The only problem with Simcoe is the parking totally sucks, but most lakes in the winter you are in the same boat, if you don't know someone on the lake.

Scugog has a ton of crappie, for me bait makes all the difference I use one setup on scugog that has amazing results. After years of trying different setups finally found one that works for me. I'll pm you what i use.

Went up to Scugog a couple of times and went out with Scugog Ice Adventures. They offer a noon to 8pm time slot to take you out, best time if you are targeting crappie. Take a look at their web site, if you want to set something up let me know and maybe we can plan an outing. We did well when he had his huts out from Gorski's one year, shallow and weedy where we were.

I'm going to go up Saturday afternoon and stay for the early night bite if anyone wants to meet up. Can cover more water with more people and hopefully find a school or two of biting crappie.

Yup, Nipissing next week but after that I am good to go. Do you ever have time off through the week, I hear the weekends are just plain crazy on Scugog. If so we should set up something through the week, I can always take a day off from work. We should ask him if he is set up in crappie territory before we head up.
