I don't think there is any whitefish in the Kawathas. You need to head a little more north to the Minden area, but the whites don't get to big in the lakes up there like they do in Simcoe.

How about Ling, is there any place but Simcoe close to the GTA? Only because I have no machine and have to walk out pulling my portable, unless I am going to a rental hut. Anyone have experience with rental guys, on Simcoe who are known to put folks on the overnight bite for ling? What would be better, for ling, overnight in a perch hut in shallower water, or in a whitefish-trout hut in deeper water?

If you are going to try overnight I would go with the whitefish/laker grounds. I don't know of any rental places that target ling. You always have a chance at whitey while trying for ling. For the most part ling are an incidental catch on Lake Simcoe.
I have targeted ling in the big sound up near Parry Sound overnight and did well for ling. We were fishing in a private hut.
