The fact there is no ice on the main part of Simcoe may be a good thing.
In the last 10 days here at Horseshoe Valley, we have had nearly 2ft of snow.
If there had been a thin layer of ice on the lake it would have been pushed down by the weight of the snow and it would have insulated things and hampered further ice development.
My "guess" in early Dec., was safe ice on the Oro Shore by Jan. 23.

rain next 2 days could be good get rid of any snow lying on ice and start over for freeze up of lakes with some good cold and no winds should not take long

Just went and checked tudhope ...a few huts out there ...snow wasn't as bad as I expected ...there was at least 8 in the hole I checked. Hopefully get out tomorrow for a bit before the rain comes.
