The first 100 yards out from shore is a pretty slushy walk but once you get out a bit it hardens up. I fished in 20 feet of water today and was on 4" of black ice with 4-6" of white/gray ice. Got 4 perch and 1 pike between me and my buddy. We forgot all our minnows at home so we made due with plastics. Tough bite but the pike made it fun! Be safe anyone venturing out!
