ice auger problems

I own an Eskimo stingray 33c auger and seem to have trouble starting up this season, takes a good 20 to 30 pulls to get going then when it finally does it boggs down, also notice gas dripping out near the carb and prime bulb, seems to be a poor design. anyone know what the issue could be? do I need to rebuild the carb?

Leave the choke open, prime 5x, close choke, pull.

Get an 8" Finn Bore lll manual auger. Can ice any species through the hole. Like cutting through butter my friend and best thing is, you don't need to start it!

I have the same auger and the fuel line went hard and brittle in just 2 years.changed the fuel line and stopped the air leaks and all was good.

Try running some sea foam threw it. Did you add fresh fuel?

Poor design, more likely lack of annual maintenance. If gas is running back out of the carb, the needle and seat need replacing

I have a weed eater that did the same thing. The ethanol hardens the lines and they crack.

You can change the fuel line or have a small engines shop fix it up easy enough.

I have the same auger. Key is to prime, then close the choke.

X2 only problem is I have been looking for replacement blades 2 years now and nobody seems to stock them. Mine still works satisfactory but I bought it used and this is my 3rd season and want new blades for peace of mind in case they decide not to cut anymore

Every SAIL I've been to has them. The replacement blades are by Mora-Ice.

Thanks guys. Guess I will have to make a trip down there. As for the OP I agree it will likely need a carb kit and fuel lines as the lines and diaphragms would have hardened over the summer if stored with ethanol containing fuel. Have been a motorcycle/small engine mechanic for my entire adult life and the introduction of ethanol has wreaked havoc on small motors and their fuel systems. It has made my trade a lot busier but it has made customer interaction a lot tougher and more awkward. They hate being told the fuel system needs rebuilt on their dime because the unit was improperly stored and ethanol ate anything made of rubber. And don't understand why it is their fault when they have done it the same way for twenty years and not had a problem. Sorry for rambling on...I have more to ramble about on the topic of ethanol and why it's harder to make your auger work if anyone's interested....

I agree, ethanol is bad S$#@. I use Shell V-Power in all my small engines including my boat motor and all run much better since I made the change.

( It does not include ethanol)

I was under the impression that all gas was blended with ethanol at the refinery nowadays? I know it used to say on the different grades at the pump it may contain up to 10% depending on the grade. They do not say that anymore and can't seem to find one that says it is free of ethanol. I'd like to find a good gas to use on the small engines.

We do not have that exact same problem but everytime I use the gas auger my face gets sprinkle with a bit of gas coming out the carb. She still starts and drill like a champ but smelling like gas all day is annoying.
